How I Became A Morning Workout Person
This is me, at 5.45 am, sitting on my yoga mat at Daybreaker X Zalando X Reebok waiting for my yoga pass to start. I definitely hate mornings more than you do, the comforting feeling of turning my phone off, cuddle up with my cat and slowly fall back to sleep, has been for a long time the reason I used to run constantly late (and blaming it on me being Italian). So, what made me end up waking up at 5am, enduring in a early morning workout turned into dance floor and actually enjoying it? Here are few tips I discovered in the past few months that made me become a morning workout person.
1. Leave the blinds open and turn on a light as soon as you wake up
Yep, that means absolutely no snoozing. It takes some practice, but as soon as the alarm goes you should open right away your blinds, turn on as many lights as possible and drink a glass of water. You can automate this by buying a Philips Hue system or similar.
2. Drink a glass of water right after you wake up.
Being hydrated improves your workout performance, as well as waking up the body in the morning.
3. DRINK black COFFEE AND SKIP BREAKFAST
Although many say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, there are proven benefits for intermittent fasting. I like to workout on an empty stomach and kickstart the day with a cup of black coffee.
4. Use a smart alarm clock
Seriously, this app changed my life. I couldn't believe it at first but waking up in the lightest sleep phase rather than during deep sleep has improved my mornings and made waking up before 8 AM a routine (yes, even during the weekends).
5. WAKE UP AND DANCE
I had a blast at the Zalando X Reebok Daybreaker event at Kulturhuset, and I will keep working out in the morning. I found out it's actually easier to squeeze in a morning workout rather than a late one in the evening – and surprise – I actually enjoy it more now.
