I Spent The Weekend At A Swedish Island Resort
Where do I start? I have now been living in Sweden for almost ten years and somewhat I never managed to travel to this beautiful island just few hours away from Stockholm. Few clues: is the largest island in Sweden, it has has 92 medieval churches built between the twelfth and fifteenth centuries and it is favourite travel destination for Swedes during the summer. I am of course talking about Gotland! I spent my midsummer weekend here with some friends and enjoyed the island life to the fullest. Here are some of the highlights from the weekend.
1. novi hotel resort
We got the cutest villa by the sea at Novi Hotel Resort, just by the sea. We were a big group of friends so we enjoyed late breakfast at the room, and celebrated Midsummer with a lunch by our garden. We ate traditional swedish summer food like salmon, potatoes, sausages and pickled herrings.
2. The day at the beach
We traveled almost one hour car ride to the countryside from Visby but as we reached the beach I couldn't believe my eyes. Gotland has some of the whitest beaches with the cutest spots where to enjoy a cold drink by the water. We ended up having lunch on the beach and drink coffee before moving to the next stop on our small road trip.
3. the rugged nature
White sand, big rocks by the beach, old ruins and turbulent sea: Gotland is the perfect backdrop for the most epic photos. I enjoyed spending few days offline and immerse myself ion the nature of this beautiful island.
4. the medieval old town of visby
So in love with this place. Just about 5 minutes walk from my hotel, Visby is one of the cutest towns I have visited. With its old churches and city walls, the market and the rose bushes everywhere, Visby took a little piece of my heart. I will definitely come back and spend more time in this beautiful island. Until next time, Gotland.
5. Dinner with my friends
Dinner is my favourite part of the day. Enjoying a nice meal together with friends is one of the best things to do, especially when traditional Swedish snaps are involved. Can't wait to come back to this place, and celebrate hundreds more dinners together.
